Michael Knitter was born in Bensberg on February 6, 1966. He has been a Member of the Executive Board of Eurowings GmbH since August 2015.
Michael Knitter, a commercial pilot, joined Lufthansa in 1987 and has held a wide variety of positions: After training at Lufthansa’s school for commercial pilots in Bremen, he flew on B727 and A320 aircraft models as FO, and later on A340 aircraft as SFO. In 1998, Michael Knitter became a captain: initially flying A320 aircraft, he switched to the A340 model in 2011, an aircraft type he still pilots to this day.
In addition to these aeronautical duties, Michael Knitter worked as an advisor in the A320/A340 fleet from 1991 to 1997, before heading the project “Personalentwicklung Cockpit” in 1998.
From 2001 to 2005, he was the head of flight operations at Condor Berlin GmbH before taking over the same position at Germanwings in 2009.
In 2009 Michael Knitter took over as head of the Operations division and was named Accountable Manager of Germanwings GmbH.
In April 2013, Michael Knitter was appointed Managing Director of Lufthansa CityLine GmbH, where he played a significant role in the successful introduction of the JUMP project.
