Michael Knitter was born on 6 February 1966 in Bensberg. He has been a member of the Management Board of Eurowings and Chief Operating Officer since August 2015.
Michael Knitter, a commercial pilot, has been a Lufthansa employee since 1987. After his training at the Lufthansa commercial aviation school in Bremen, he initially flew as First Officer on the B727 and A320 models and as Senior First Officer on the A340 model. In 1998 Michael Knitter became a captain – first on the A320, in 2011 on the A340. Today Michael Knitter flies as a captain on the A320 for Eurowings.
In addition to his aviation duties, Michael Knitter has been active in airline management for more than 25 years, e.g. as Head of Flight Operations at Condor Berlin, as Head of Operations and Accountable Manager at Germanwings and as Managing Director of Lufthansa CityLine. At Lufthansa CityLine, he was instrumental in the successful introduction of long-haul operations. In August 2015, Michael Knitter was appointed Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Management Board of Eurowings.
Michael Knitter is married and has three children.
