Las Vegas – a top destination for German holidaymakers in the USA

Las Vegas is one of the most attractive destinations for German holidaymakers in the USA. The city, situated in the desert of the US state of Nevada, became an important stopover for wagon trains and railways in the 19th century due to its groundwater resources. Construction of the Hoover dam at the beginning of the 20th century and the legalisation of gambling in Nevada laid the foundation stone of today's entertainment metropolis and the first hotels and casinos, for which Las Vegas is still famous, were built. The city offers visitors a fascinating world of glitz and glamour which is characterised mainly by a large number of legendary casinos. Las Vegas is also considered an ideal base for travelling the southwestern United States.
