The short trip over the turn of the year – still one of the most popular travel occasions. New Year's Eve can be planned and celebrated in many places in Europe for the first time again without restrictions. While travelers decided to book their flights at much shorter notice in 2021, this year they were ready to book much earlier. Cities that can be reached quickly from Germany are particularly popular for a two- to three-day trip: whether it's partying on Las Ramblas in the Catalan beach metropolis or at the Brandenburg Gate in the hip capital, stopping off at a wine tavern in the city of Mozart, in one of the numerous pubs in the British capital or in a harbor pub in Germany's port city – Barcelona, Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg and London are especially popular with Eurowings guests.

Those setting out for a longer trip also tend to fly to more southern climes, the evaluations show. The most popular destinations are the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and Andalusia. Mild temperatures, a southern flair and Mediterranean delicacies know no season. The surprising trendsetter this year is the Portuguese island of Madeira in the Atlantic Ocean. Possible attractions: the brilliant fireworks around the harbor of Funchal or the sweet custom of eating twelve raisins at midnight – one for each month, with meanings like luck, love, and health.

Spontaneous New Year's Eve trip still bookable

Eurowings also still has free capacity for last-minute travelers from the major locations. For a short New Year's Eve weekend from Friday to Sunday, the following destinations are trendy alternatives to the already well-booked classics:

  • From Düsseldorf to Dresden, Milan and Prague
  • From Cologne to Milan, Munich and Budapest
  • From Hamburg to Milan and Munich
  • From Stuttgart to Hamburg and Vienna

Flight and hotel bookings from a single source are available at tour operator brand Eurowings Holidays.
